The Innovative Drug Research Centre (IDRC) is a multi-disciplinary biomedical research institute under the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Chongqing University (CQU). On the foundation of DPS and IDRC, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences (SPS) was established in 2015. SPS commits to conducting cutting-edge biomedical research, and developing research talents for the pharmaceutical and related fields in China.
Currently, more than 40 staff members work in SPS, including fourteen full professors/PI and five associate professors. Among the current faculty, one is supported by the "National Thousand Talents Program", one is supported by the "Program for New Century Excellent Talents in University of Ministry of Education", oneissupported by "Special Government Allowances of the State Council" and eleven are supported by Chongqing University “Young 100 Talent Plan”. More than 80% faculty members had oversea education background and/or work experiences. At present, SPS has more than 300 students, including 70 PhD students, 114 graduate students, 136 undergraduate students, and 3 foreign post-doctoral fellows.
SPS currently provides six main research programs: natural medicinal chemistry, medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, pharmaceutical analysis, pharmaceutics and bioinformatics. And it is composed of three academic departments: medicinal chemistry, pharmacology and pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical analysis & drug design and natural medicinal chemistry.
SPS is located at Huxi Campus of CQU with a 7,000 m2 facility for research and offices. SPS is equipped with modern research instruments, including 600 MHz NMR and high resolution mass spectroscopy machines etc. A forty million worthy of instruments for biology/pharmacology isunder purchase.
In the past five years, SPS has obtained more than 35 national or local research grants which are more than20 million RMB. More than 50 high-impact research papers have been published in international scientific journals, such as J. Am. Chem. Soc. and Angew. Chem. Int. Ed.
SPS will continue its efforts to train top talents for pharmaceutical research and is committed to becoming a world-class training and research institution in pharmaceutical sciences.
